Film Festival World Tour coming

Wildsight Invermere is celebrating the power of film and community by presenting the Wild and Scenic Film Festival World Tour on Nov. 28 and 29.

With 15 films being screened over two nights at the Invermere Community Hall, the festival is being touted as the biggest and best valley event in November, replete with cool door prizes, a raffle, and pizza and cash bar.

World-renowned Canmore alpinist and guide Barry Blanchard is our special Saturday night guest. His new memoir, The Calling: A Life Rocked by Mountains was a finalist at the 2014 Banff Mountain Film Festival and tells the rock ‘em, sock ‘em stories that fast tracked his initiation into the realm of climbing legends. Using photos from his world-class climbs, Barry takes us from the character shaping harsh realities of growing up Métis in Calgary, to the rough and tumble, unforgiving world of hardcore alpine climbing in the Rockies and Himalaya. Books will be for sale.

This year’s selections will not only take audiences to some of the most remote and beautiful places on the planet but also instill a deep appreciation and a sense of wonder for the natural world that surrounds and supports us.

Festivalgoers will see award-winning films about nature, community activism, climbing and skiing, conservation, water, climate change, photography and wildlife, the politics of dams, and indigenous cultures. The selection will include three films from British Columbia filmmakers.
