First Saturdays launches Arts on the Edge

Kimberley Arts Council’s monthly celebration of Kimberley arts and culture – First Saturdays – was another fun stroll through the Platzl.

Several dozen artists and artisans were on hand throughout the Platzl, and on display at Centre 64, producing pieces on the spot. Along with showcasing their talents live, artists and artisans also have a great opportunity to receive the exposure that a busy summer Saturday in downtown Kimberley brings.

First Saturdays are held on the first Saturday from July to October.

These day-long celebrations of arts and culture showcase a wide range of Kimberley and area peoples’ talents, with downtown businesses encouraged to offer specials.

This past Saturday also featured the Dusty Downhill Trail Run, with many participants coming to the Platzl after, filling open restaurants to the brim.

First Saturdays (August 1) was also the launch of an eight-day celebration of Kimberley arts – Arts on the Edge – Kimberley Kaleidoscope.

Arts on the Edge, running August 1-8, is Kimberley’s annual festival of all the arts, from performing to visual to culinary. Arts on the Edge strives to support and promote the Kimberley arts community and to offer opportunities for artists and performers from across our region to interact with and learn from one another.
