Kimberley’s own First Saturdays events have been a huge success over the past two summers but the final First Saturday, on Oct. 4 will likely go down as being the most memorable.

Attendees of the events enjoy the wide of variety of entertainers that have performed over the season but it was the Step’N Out Dancers that took top spot.

The dancers started off with the timeless song, Edelweiss, when suddenly the music skipped a beat and jumped to the old Beatles tune, Twist and Shout. Everybody stopped, curious as to what happened. But it didn’t take long for the crowd to jump on board.

A Flash Mob Dance broke out, the audience including City of Kimberley Mayor Ron McRae and Councillor Darryl Oakley began moving to the beat. Pretty soon everybody joined in including the Kimberley Dynamiters. The atmosphere was ecstatic as the music played on.

CLN The HollerersWhat a highlight to the ever-popular First Saturdays.

To end the day, The Hollers played for almost three hours at Centre 64. The popular local band belted out a number of great tunes, often with Emilio Regina on lead vocals.

CLN CraigHCraig Hillman sang a number of songs including his own “Kimberley” rendition of Neil Young’s song, Downtown. The concert was great end not only to the day but the year. An estimated crowd of about 200 that not only listened and danced to the music but enjoyed bratwurst, German Beer and Pretzels.

The organizers Emily Smith and Carol Fergus along with a great bunch of volunteers deserve a huge round of applause for the work they put in. Other partners included; The City of Kimberley, Kimberley Tourism and Kimberley Arts Council. Kimberley Alpine Resort sponsored the Rocktober concert.

CLN The HollersFirst Saturdays Kimberly has gained huge momentum since its inception in the spring of 2013, certainly 2014 ended with bang, we look forward to next year. Meanwhile start waxing your skis!
