The Golden Hearted Ed King

By Louie Cupello

Ed King, singer/songwriter, is a long time Cranbrook resident born on the prairies, raised on the west coast.

Ed met his wife Audrey in the White Rock, Langley area and together they raised a family while travelling countless miles. In his younger days Ed toured with a five piece, over a period of 25 years, from California to Alaska and all places in between.

Ed, Audrey and their son Lance recently travelled to Branson, Missouri where Ed received The Golden Heart Award from the Gospel Country Music Association as 2014 International Full Time Male Vocalist.

Old habits are hard to break; they left Cranbrook travelling by car. Ed and Lance took turns driving 24 hours straight as Audrey slept in the back seat. The next day they stopped and rested at a motel before heading back on the road. They arrived in Branson three days later and Ed performed the following night.

In recent years Ed has concentrated on Gospel Music; however, on occasion he performs with his sons Lance, Jay and his nephew Connor.

In September Ed King and Family performed at BJ’s Creekside Pub in Kimberley. Connor Foote (Ed’s grandson) performed a song that his grandfather had written over 30 years ago. Part way through the performance Ed joined his grandson on stage; this was one of those moments that brings a tear to your eyes. Ed is a true gentleman who has performed for many benefits and charity events.

There are so many stories to tell. Ed was offered a book deal, which he turned because he says he is not particularly proud of some of the things he’s done in his life.

Well Ed, the citizens of Cranbrook are proud of you as are all the people whose lives you touched over the years.

One other note: the Gospel Country Music Awards will be held at the Four Square Church in Cranbrook in June 2015. This will be a one-week event and the public is welcome to attend.
