Griz Days returns this weekend

grizdayspThe biggest and snowiest party of the year is in Fernie this weekend, Feb. 28 – March 2 as the annual Griz Days gets underway.

Things get rolling Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fernie Museum with Griz Wiz – a Griz Adventure Through Time.

The Fernie Arena hosts the Timbits Hockey Tournament from 4-7 p.m., with free admission and the CP Station Square Street Party gets rocking at 7 p.m., outside The Arts Station, with live music courtesy Thar Be Dragons and Cranbrook’s Good Ol’ Goats. The Commit 2 Pain Rail Jam gets underway, as well, with preliminary runs.

Saturday morning gets a hearty boost with the Christian Youth Association Pancake Breakfast at the Fernie Community Centre from 8 – 10 a.m.

The day is absolutely chock-a-block with events and activities, which you can scope out by clicking on this Griz Days schedule.

grizparmaryThings really get rolling at 6:30 p.m. when the annual Griz Days Parade rolls down 2nd Avenue, with this year’s theme ‘Legend of the Griz, Wild & Spirited Mountain Culture.’

The CP Station Square Street Party follows the parade, outside The Arts Station with live music by Los Morenos.

Along with the refreshment garden (19+) and
 concessions, there will be the crowning of Extreme Griz winner(s)
, as well as the Commit 2 Pain Rail Jam finals hosted by Commit Snow & Skate
.

grizdayshAt 9 p.m. the sky over downtown Fernie will light up with a fireworks display!

Running in conjunction with Griz Days again is the 15th annual Classic Canadian Street Hockey Tournament behind the Park Place Lodge.

The event is also serving as a FLEXY Paralympic Fundraiser with proceeds raised at the event going towards Flex and his road to the Paralympics.
