Kenny Rogers coming to CranbrookPosted: November 18, 2013
One of the best selling musical artists of all time, Kenny Rogers, will be performing a special concert at Western Financial Place on Feb. 26 in support of his latest album ‘You Can’t Make Old Friends.’
Rogers has charted over 100 hit singles in his career, spanning both the country and pop genres, and has sold over 120 million albums worldwide. Some of those singles offer a portion of the most recognizable songs of all time.
Songs like The Gambler, Islands in the Stream(With Dolly Parton), Lucille, Lady, Coward of the County, Through the Years, Ruby Don’t take your love to Town, Rueben James, She believes in Me, You Decorated my Life and many more.
Roger’s new album You Can’t Make old Friends features the single of the same name with old friend Dolly Parton. The album was released on October 8 to widespread critical acclaim and debuted at number nine on the Billboard Top 10 Country Albums chart.
A trail blazing artist, he was the first artist to consistently sell out arenas and he quickly became a pop star as well-his 28 Bill board Adult Contemporary Top 10s is fourth-best all time among men, trailing only Elvis Presley, Elton John and Neil Diamond. He has recorded 12 number one albums, and 24 of his singles hit no. 1 on the music charts.
Roger’s awards over the years include three Grammys, 11 Peoples’ Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music awards, five Country Music Association Awards, and on Nov. 6 of this year he received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement award honour at the 47th Annual CMA awards in Nashville.
Just before that in October, Rogers was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame cementing his legacy and influence in music. Roger’s has also acted in a variety of movies and television shows, most notably the title role in, Kenny Rogers as the Gambler, several sequels, the MacShayne tv series, Wild Horses, and Xmas in America.
Earlier this year, Rogers performed on the main stage at the Glastonbury Festival to a colossal audience on the grounds and around the UK as it was televised on the BBC. So far his 2013 Through the Years World Tour has included stops in Morocco, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Switzerland, the U.S. and Canada. Remaining a popular entertainer around the world, Rogers was voted the ‘Favourite Singer of All-Time’ in a 1986 joint poll by the readers of both USA today and People magazine. He continues to receive acclaim for his new recordings and live performances.
“We are thrilled to have an artist of this magnitude come to the East Kootenay,” said FJ Hurtak from the Kootenay Concert Connection.
“At the recent Country Music Awards in Edmonton, my partner, Gene Daniel from Nanaimo and I heard that Kenny Rogers may be touring Canada in 2014. We had a meeting with his agent during that week to explore the possibilities of having them make Cranbrook a part of the tour. To make a long story short, things developed very nicely, to the point where we contacted Chris New and Mike Edwards at Western Financial Place to hold some dates, to make sure the venue was available.
“It was, as the Kootenay Ice are on the road during that time period, and then all parties worked closely for a few weeks to put this concert together. This show will feature a stage which will face the luxury boxes and have seating only on one side of the arena for best possible audio quality, such as the Randy Travis show had a couple of years ago. Only 1,750 seats will be sold for this show so I advise getting your tickets very early to avoid disappointment,” Hurtak noted.
Tickets go on sale at Western Financial Place Friday Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. All seats are reserved.
The Kenny Rogers Through the Years 2014 World Tour with special guest Canada’s own Charlie Major, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook.
