Key City Theatre liquor hours expanding

Cranbrook’s Key City Theatre will soon be able to serve alcoholic beverages for twice as much time after City of Cranbrook council April 25 unanimously agreed to support an application for change.

Key City Theatre has applied to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB) for a permanent change to its ‘Primary Liquor Licence’ to extend the hours of sale from 6 p.m. Monday to Sunday through to 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. The LCLB requires city council’s approval of the request prior to processing the application.

In a report to council recommending support, the city’s Corporate Services department pointed out the current use of the property is to present performing arts and concert events for the entertainment of patrons.

The views of the residents within approximately 0.2 kilometres of the proposed establishment were gathered by way of written invitation by the city to comment on the application within three weeks of the date of the correspondence. No responses were received from the residents, the city reported.

“The local detachment of the RCMP has been consulted regarding this application and has no concerns,” the city report said.
