Outside the Box next at Arts Station

Up next in The Arts Station Gallery is Outside the Box: two workshops by The Visual Arts Guild.

OOB girl pictureThe August Gallery Show at The Arts Station is a display by the Visual Arts Guild members and friends.

In 2014 the Guild applied for and received a grant from Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance/Columbia Basin Trust. In the fall of that year Nichole Yanota taught a workshop about the art of storytelling through a painting. She also focused on drawing with pencil and coloured pencil.

In early 2015 Kari Lehr taught about the use of colour and collage. She also included demonstrations on layering and painting everyone’s Elk Valley favourite – bears.  Both Nichole and Kari are residents of Crowsnest Pass in Alberta. The gallery show represents paintings from these two workshops.

The Visual Arts Guild has been in existence since September of 1953 (soon to be 63 years ago). At that time the meeting place was the old Fernie High School. Now the meeting place is the Fernie Arts Station. In the summer the guild meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 and in the winter, Tuesday afternoons at 1. Membership to the guild is open to anyone and requires only an Arts Station membership to belong.

The opening reception for this show is Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m.

The exhibit continues until Tuesday, August 25.OOB blue picture
