Kootenay Savings’ recent annual Outdoor Movie Nights saw a record number of movie-goers of all ages flock to their local parks to enjoy one of this year’s biggest blockbusters, Inside Out!

Held Friday, September 11 in Kimberley and Trail and Saturday, September 12 in Nakusp and Radium Hot Springs, the events were free to attend. Rather than pay an admission fee to see the film, which was projected onto a 30 foot tall inflatable screen, everyone was instead encouraged to bring along a donation for their local food bank.

Outdoor Movie Night in Kimberley has been held at Coronation Park every year since its debut in Kimberley in 2009. Nearly 1,400 people attended this year, more than doubling the average attendance from past years.
 Food collected valued at $3,500 dollars, along with cash donations of $500.
 All donations benefit the Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank.

This year’s event, the third annual in Radium Hot Springs, was hosted at Legend’s Field in partnership with the Village of Radium Hot Springs. Food valued at a total of $750 was donated, as well as $230 in cash, from the 300-plus people in attendance.
 All donations benefit the Columbia Valley Food Bank.

“Each year, the sight of all the people pouring in to the parks with bags of food to donate never grows old,” shared Aron Burke, Community Liaison for Kootenay Savings. “It’s heart-warming to see how caring and generous people are, and how appreciative the food banks are in return.”
