Something for everyone at Winterfest 2016

Sparwood is going to a lively place during Sparwood Winterfest 2016 February 19-21.

The three-day festival will feature something for everyone and for all ages, with a heavy emphasis on outdoor and indoor activities. The following is the weekend schedule, provided by the District of Sparwood.

Friday, February 19

Winterfest BrochureHERITAGE DISPLAY all weekend in the Curling Concourse

SIP AND PAINT 7-10 p.m. (Tickets available from the Leisure Centre – $45.) Enjoy a beverage as local artist Sue Hanlon instructs you step by step through an original piece of art. At the end of the night you will take home a one of a kind painting and hopefully a newfound talent. Price includes canvas, paint, instruction, and refreshment.

Saturday, February 20

BONFIRE BBQ with band DIVIDED SOCIETY at the Spray Park 1 – 4 p.m.

FUN SNOWPITCH GAME Lions Park 1 pm Bundle up and get ready to play in a co-ed fun snowpitch game. For more information contact Dallas Shipley at [email protected]

SNOW FUN FOR KIDS 1 p.m. Join us by the Spray Park for snow painting, snow games, snow building, and much more!

TOBOGGAN HILL open all day Fun for the whole family – bring your sleds and enjoy.

SNOWSHOE RACES Multi Purpose field 2:30 p.m. Test your snowshoeing skills – race against family and friends. Snowshoes provided by Sparwood Search and Rescue.

AVALANCHE BEACON TRAINING Multi Purpose Field 2:30 p.m. Avalanche beacons are an incredibly powerful tool for the backcountry, but they are worthless if you don’t know how to use them properly. Learn how to use them with help from Sparwood Search and Rescue.

FREE PUBLIC SKATE 2-4 p.m.

FREE PUBLIC SWIM 3 – 5 p.m. (Sponsored by Kids First Success By 6)

FERNIE GHOSTRIDER GAME Doors Open 7 p.m. Arena Game Time 7:30 p.m. Come cheer on the Fernie Ghostriders as they take on the Kimberley Dynamiters. Adults $10; Seniors/Student/Child $5.

Sunday, February 21

SPARWOOD SKATING CARNIVAL Show Time 3 – 5 p.m. Sparwood Skating Club’s annual winter carnival. The carnival is an opportunity for the skaters of the Club to perform their newly acquired skills, while having fun. Adults $10; Seniors/Student/Child $5.
