Youth centre gala date re-set

A new venue, new feel and new energy.

The Windermere Valley Youth Centre Society (WVYCS) had to postpone their gala – An Evening With Ash Beckham and Brett Wilson – when too many stumbling blocks just made it unfeasible for the original May 24 date.

“It was not just one thing, it was several things that just made us realize we could not pull if off successfully,” said WVYCS board president Sherry Doerr.  “It was not an easy decision, but one we felt we had to make.”

Initially the event was to be held at Copper Point Resort, with a full sit down meal, speaker and silent auction.

The new date and venue are set for Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Winderberry Greenhouse, with a more relaxed, fun setting, lots of food, music and mingling, as well as speaker Beckham (pictured) and the silent auction.

“While we would have loved to have it at Copper Point, they are booked pretty much solid for all the weekends that would have worked for both us and Ash,” Doerr said. “Brett is our honourary chair and while he does have family commitments that weekend and cannot attend, we are so appreciative of his support of the youth center.”

Wilson said he was honoured to be asked to be a part of the event and truly regrets not being able to be there in person.

The board and staff will continue to collect donations for the auction and are determined to make the evening a night to remember.

If you have any questions, would like to donate or purchase tickets, you can reach Doerr at 250-688-0553, Stephanie Stevens at 250-688-0059, The Summit Youth Centre at 250-342-3033 or Kath Sutherland at 250-270-0254.
