Online tool helps connect apprentices with employers

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) and WorkBC are excited to launch a new innovative way for local employers and apprentices to connect with the introduction of an online Apprentice Job Match tool on WorkBC’s website (www.workbc.ca).

One of the biggest hurdles to apprenticeship is securing employment with an employer sponsor. Employers are an essential component of any apprenticeship as 80% of an apprentice’s journey is spent in practical training under the guidance of their employer.

With over 37,000 registered apprentices in B.C., and just over 9,400 employer sponsors, the need to connect apprentices to local employers is greater than ever. This new online tool will help more apprentices secure the on-the-job training they need to boost their skills and achieve certification in their chosen trade.

On Friday, Nov. 7, College of the Rockies will host ITA Apprenticeship Advisor Marlin Ratch, as he showcases the new Apprentice Job Match tool to Foundation program students, local employer sponsors, and other industry stakeholders.

Foundation program students are a key audience as the tool is especially useful to pre-apprenticeship Foundation students who are looking to get into the apprenticeship system by finding an employer that will sponsor them.

Ratch will be available from noon to 1 p.m. in Room P121, Pinnacle Hall Building, College of the Rockies, Cranbrook.
