The Crown of the Continent geotourism project was launched with the National Geographic Society in 2007. Partners in the project include representatives from Alberta, Montana and British Columbia.

The intensive 14-month process included presentations, meetings and workshops to identify and map the region’s special values, places and stories. There were over 700 nominations for what should be featured on the map guide and website. Since 2008, over 620,000 map guides have been distributed and over 470,000 travellers have used the website for vacation planning.

Now it is time to re-engage with the people and businesses to ensure we capture the special values, places and stories of our region. Get an insider’s view on how to submit a nomination, navigate the website, leverage National Geographic brand and learn how geotourism benefits our communities.

Workshops will be held in the four subregions of the East Kootenay next week.

Kimberley – Tuesday, April 26 – 10 to 11 a.m. at the Kimberley Conference & Athletic Training Centre – 290 North Star Blvd.

Columbia Valley – Tuesday, April 26 – 3 to 4 p.m.
at the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce – 651 Highway 93/95.

Cranbrook – Wednesday, April 27 – 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino – 7777 Mission Road.

Elk Valley – Wednesday, April 27 – 3 to 4 p.m. at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce – 102 Hwy 3.
