In the Elk Valley there are many people and organizations that work hard to promote literacy awareness and to make sure that everyone has opportunities to learn. Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) would like to recognize one of these individuals or organizations with the ‘Champions for Literacy’ award.

A literacy champion shows one or more of the following traits: shows a commitment to literacy; is innovative and creative and inspires or motivates others to learn; supports literacy work; speaks out about the importance of literacy in our community.

Literacy is life. Literacy is more than just reading and writing. Literacy is also knowing how to operate a computer and use basic math skills. It is the skills required to function in our world. Literacy is the ability to learn. No matter how old we are we can all improve our literacy skills!

All nominations are due by June 1.
