Big Brothers Big Sisters hosting Sexual Abuse Prevention Training program

Little Warriors is coming to Cranbrook to do Sexual Abuse Prevention Training programs.

Little Warriors, a national charitable organization, is pleased to offer the revolutionary, research based Stewards of Children Prevention Workshop in Cranbrook. The Stewards of Children three hour workshop educates adults how to help prevent, recognize and react to child sexual abuse. Follow this link for a detailed description of the workshop.  http://littlewarriors.ca/prevention/the-prevention-program/ .

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook will be paying the costs for our mentors to attend. The date is January 29 from 6 – 9 p.m. in Cranbrook.  Please let me know if you would like to attend (and you are one of our mentors).

After the workshop, participants will…

▪ understand the facts of child sexual abuse – incidence rates and effects on individuals and society

▪ understand how child sexual abuse happens

▪ understand that adults are responsible for the protection of children

▪ understand the importance of screening staff/volunteers who work with children and adolescents

▪ understand the importance of a well-conceived one-adult/one-child policy

▪ have resources to react responsibly to incidents of child sexual abuse

▪ understand the proactive role youth-serving organizations need to take to protect children and educate their communities about child sexual abuse

▪ receive a certificate of attendance.

Who should attend this workshop? Everyone who interacts with children; parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, professionals, volunteers. One in three girls and one in six boys will be sexual assaulted before their 18th birthday; 95% of them will know the perpetrator. Can you imagine the impact on society if child sexual abuse was prevented before it happened? Adults leave the workshop feeling informed and empowered.
