CFES handles many calls as storm rolls through

Monday night’s storm that rolled through Cranbrook and area kept dispatch and firefighters busy at the Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services (CFES) dealing with a large number of calls.

In Cranbrook, a total of five calls for assistance were received including a lightning cause structure fire on Innis Avenue near Confederation Park. Crews responded and were able to contain the fire to the attic of the building. The occupant of the building was not home at the time, so there were no injuries.

In addition, crews responded to electrical lines down and a number of other electrical concerns.

Around the region, Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services began receiving dispatch calls from Castlegar around 7:50 p.m. MT. The dispatch center remained very busy with calls until approximately 11 p.m. MT, when the storm made its way through the East Kootenay.
