Cyclist airlifted to Calgary after collision
A cyclist has sustained serious injuries after a collision in Windermere.
The 35-year old cyclist from Calgary sustained serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a pickup truck. The collision occurred on the Windermere Loop Road, south of Invermere on Tuesday, July 22 at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The driver of the truck turned left, cutting off the cyclist; the cyclist braked but was unable to stop in time and struck the passenger side of the truck, report Columbia Valley RCMP.
The cyclist was taken to Invermere and District Hospital where he was airlifted to the Foothills Trauma Unit in Calgary. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.
Police believe the glare of the sun may have been a factor in the collision; the cyclist was wearing a helmet. The collision is still under investigation by Columbia Valley RCMP and East Kootenay Traffic Services.
