The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the March 14 District of Elkford council meeting.

Elk Valley Relay for Life

elkfordmuniThis year the Elk Valley Relay for Life will be held June 18 in Elkford. The Relay for Life Committee consists of several Elkford Secondary School students who are responsible for various aspects of the event. The committee hopes to bring it to Elkford every three years and to involve teams from all Elk Valley municipalities.

UBCM Grant for Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Council approved an application for a Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) grant to update our Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The district completed a CWPP in 2006 and has since implemented approximately 55 ha of fuel treatments over the past 10 years.

Automated Side Loading Garbage Collection Unit

Council approved a purchase of a side loading garbage collection unit. The existing garbage truck will be kept as a backup.

Bylaws

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 781, 2016 was adopted. The amendment will allow for exceptions to minimum parcel sizes when a property is subdivided when split by a highway.

Council Procedure Amendment Bylaw No. 783, 2016 was adopted. This bylaw will add provisions for electronic participation in Committee of the Whole meetings.
