Feeding the Future: Slow Food Columbia Valley
From April 6 to 10, Invermere will be host to a nation-wide event where good, clean and fair food lovers from coast-to-coast and beyond will reunite to discover the food communities and traditions of the beautiful Columbia Valley under the theme ‘Feeding the Future.’
Nestled in the Purcell Mountains on beautiful Lake Windermere with ranchlands, farms and artisanal food producers, Invermere offers the perfect setting to welcome food enthusiasts from across Canada, the US, Mexico and Italy to our annual summit.
“We are very excited to host the National Summit and the Columbia Valley is coming together to give delegates and community-members alike, a true taste of what Slow Food and our valley has to offer,” said Lara McCormack, Organizing Team Member, Slow Food Columbia Valley.
The event will offer an array of activities and exchange opportunities for participants under many themes such as Indigenous Food Systems, Slow Meat, Food Access and Food Security and The Future of Farming, and will offer them the chance to take part in food tours and culinary seminars to get to know the region by not only seeing it, but by tasting it. The delegation will include culinary, agriculture and media professionals amongst the most highly regarded in their industry, as well as culinary educators, members of national and provincial tourism boards and celebrity chefs.
This year again, Slow Food in Canada will crown its Canadian Food Heroes, a title given to those who protect, defend and promote sustainable, good, clean and fair food by actively and positively contributing to the food system and preserving the rich history food of their region.
Slow Food in Canada is a collaborative team comprised of Slow Food networks from coast to coast.
