Fernie Council Connection

The following is a breakdown as to what occurred during the City of Fernie council meeting June 22.

1. AGREEMENTS, LICENCES PERMITS & POLICIES

cof1.1   Development Variance Permit No. DVPA-369  Council authorized the issuance of DVP-369 for 25 Mt. Minton Street to legalize the siting of the existing single detached dwelling as well to vary the minimum side yard setback into the required minimum side yard for the said rear addition to facilitate the construction of a single storey rear addition.

1.2  Development Variance Permit No. DVPA-371   Council authorized the issuance of DVP-371 for 68 Mt. Proctor Avenue to legalize the detached dwelling by varying the minimum front yard setback, maximum steps projection and maximum eave projection to facilitate the construction of a single storey front entrance addition with wide steps.

1.3  Development Variance Permit Application No DVPA-373    Council approved Development Variance Permit Application No. DVPA-373 for 38 Ridgemont Drive and gave notice of their intention to consider the issuance of Development Variance Permit No. DVP-373 to vary the minimum side yard setback for the construction of an accessory building along a portion of the north property line.

1.4  Kodiak Lounge – Application for a proposed liquor license amendment (Liquor Primary) Structural Change to the Kodiak Lounge to include the existing Outdoor Patio   Council recommended approval of the amendment to the Kodiak Lounge’s liquor licence #303700 with a proposed amendment to the hours of operation for the patio to operate from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. The recommendation will be forwarded to the General Manager of the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch in Victoria, BC for final consideration.

2. BYLAWS

2.1  Bylaw No. 2612 – Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) – Extended Service (Regional Parks) Area Establishment Bylaw, 1990 – Amendment Bylaw No. 2, 2015 to include the proposed Westside Legacy Trail in the Regional Parks Service.   Council supports the Regional District of East Kootenay’s contribution into regional recreational facilities and their improvements and ongoing upkeep, and consents on behalf of the electors of the City of Fernie to the adoption of proposed RDEK Bylaw No. 2612.

3. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

3.1  2014 Financial Statements   Council approved the 2014 Financial Statements as presented by Gerald Price of GPI Chartered Accountants 2014 Draft Audited Financial Statements

3.2   2014 Schedules of Remuneration and Expenses and Payments to Suppliers of Goods or Services   Council approved the 2014 Schedule of Remuneration and Expenses and the 2014 Schedule of Payments to Suppliers of Goods or Services.

3.3  2014 Development Cost Charges Report   Council will make the Annual Development Cost Charges Report available to the public from June 22 until June 30, 2016.

3.4   Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD)   Council agreed to participate in the MADD program and authorized staff to make the necessary arrangements to move the process forward in a timely manner.

Avalanche City Roller Girls logo3.5  Avalanche City Roller Derby Girls   Council approved the request from the Avalanche City Roller Derby Girls to have the total proceeds from the Beverage Garden be donated as a grant to the not-for-profit women’s sports team in exchange for the team running the beverage gardens for the event.

3.6   Fernie Trails Alliance – Request for RMI Funds 2015   Council agreed to grant the request to the Fernie Trails Alliance with the stipulation of 50% of the funds will be granted up front and 50% to be granted upon receipt of the final report that details the benefit the event had on the local tourism economy.

3.7   Request an amendment to the Bylaw Enforcement & Response to Citizens’ Complaints Policy   Council authorized the amendment to the “Seasonal Bylaw Enforcement Priorities” to include enforcement of graffiti removal in the winter months from November to March.

4. UPCOMING MEETINGS AND OTHER NEWS

4.1 Next Regular Meeting and Committee of the Whole (COTW). The next regular scheduled meeting will be on:

– Monday, July 13 at 10 a.m. & 7 p.m.

– Monday, July 13 2014 Annual General Meeting

Notice is given that the Annual General Meeting for the City of Fernie to receive submissions and inquiries from the public respecting the 2014 Annual Municipal Report will be held on Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City hall, 501 – 3rd Avenue, Fernie, BC. Notice of Annual General Meeting

happy-canada-day4.2 City Hall Hours for Canada Day:

– Tuesday, June 30 – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

– Wednesday, July 1 – City Hall will be CLOSED

– Thursday, July 2, TAXES ARE DUE  2015 Property Tax Collection Home owners claiming a Home Owner Grant are reminded they must be completed and returned to City Hall before the tax due date.

– Effective Friday, July 3 City Hall will be on summer hours 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays).

4.3 Garbage pickup normally scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 is moved to Monday, June 29 due to the Canada Day Statutory Holiday.

4.4 July 1, 2015 – Canada Day!
