Four arrested after large fight in local park

Four persons were arrested and five taken to hospital after a large fight in a Cranbrook park on May 15.

Cranbrook RCMP attended the fight at approximately 2:40 a.m. and located five individuals suffering from various injuries.  All five were transported to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for medical treatment.  One of the victims suffered a significant head injury and remained in hospital; however, has since been released.

Police located and seized a bat at the scene, which is believed to have been used during this assault.

Through the course of the police investigation, four local individuals were identified as suspects.  All four have since been arrested and are in police custody.

Police are recommending various charges against these four individuals with the most serious being aggravated assault.

“There have been a number of incidents of violence in the city over the recent weeks and police believe this group may be responsible for much of it,” stated S/Sgt. Dave Dubnyk. “We are urging people to come forward with any information they have pertaining to this incident or any other incident that has recently occurred.”
