Fundraiser Oct. 11 for Creston tot

There will be a fundraising barbecue for a tot undergoing treatment for cancer at the Creston Overwaitea Foods on Saturday, October 11.

E-KNOW reader Myrna Johnson reported, ā€œGarrett Sorenson is a two-year-old who was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Neuroblastoma two weeks ago. It started with a tummy ache that was found to be a very large tumor that extends the whole length of his abdomen and is pushing his organs forward. Garrett started his aggressive chemo on Thursday, September 25. The chemo will be up to 18 months in hopes of shrinking the tumor so it will be easier to be surgically removed. So far it has been a whirlwind of treatments and tests. Garrett has had surgery to insert a central line, biopsy the tumor, ultrasounds, bone marrow aspiration and many other tests. He has been a little trooper through all of this.ā€

The youngest of four kids, Garrettā€™s sisters have been staying with their grandparents at home in Creston while mom and dad (Breanna and Rory Sorenson) have been by his side.

ā€œGarrettā€™s mom works as an RN in the operating room and will be off work until the end of treatment. This is going to be a long hard journey for Garrett and his whole family. We are hoping to help support them any way we can,ā€ Johnson said.

The fundraiser for Garrett will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11, with smokies, chili dogs or cheese dogs with a drink. All donations/proceeds will be donated to Garrett’s Support Fund.
