Giuliano takes Fernie away from Corrigan

Cindy Corrigan

City of Fernie Councillor Mary Giuliano has usurped the mayoral seat from Cindy Corrigan in today’s (Nov. 19) municipal election.

The margin of victory was 42 votes, with Giuliano pulling in 697 and Corrigan 655.

Giuliano was muted and respectful while searching for words after her win.

“I want to thank all my supporters and all the people who turned out to vote,” she said. “I will represent everyone as I have done in the past.”

Coun. Phil Iddon captured the most votes in the council race, with 1,071, while Joe Warshawsky was second with 728. Dan McSkimming (719) returns to council after a break and Willard Ripley (673) returns for another term.

Former mayor Randal Macnair was re-elected to a second straight term on council with 668 votes and Joni Krats seized the final seat with 591 votes.

Casey Brennan narrowly missed out on a council seat, securing 584 votes.

Andrea McKay Horton (516), Jonathan MacGregor (411) and Erik Stout (306) rounded out the council candidates.
