District of Invermere Councillor Spring Hawes announced on Facebook Sept. 23 that she does not intend to seek re-election in the Nov. 15 municipal election.

“The time has come to let you know that I will not be seeking re-election to council. It’s time for me to focus on other things. I have felt honoured to serve my community in this way for the past six years. Thank you so much for the privilege of representing you,” Hawes stated before encouraging others to step forward and run for office.

“There are exciting things happening in Invermere! We will need dedicated, thoughtful, strong people to see these things through to the best completion possible. I ask that you each reflect on your goals and commitments, and consider investing in your community by running for council if you are in a position to do so. What kind of difference do you want to make?” she posted.

Nominations will be accepted at the District of Invermere office from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10. More info is available online at http://invermere.net.
