Heavy rain fall warning for Elk Valley

Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the Elk Valley.

“Wet snow will change to rain over Elk Valley this morning and continue through Saturday evening. Heaviest rainfall amounts are expected near Fernie where 60 to 80 mm of rain is possible. Lesser amounts of 30 to 40 mm are forecast for Sparwood and Elkford,” Environment Canada reported earlier this morning.

”Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.,” it also reminded.

Rainfall Warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
