Highway 95 resurfacing to begin next month

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced that 39 kilometres of Highway 95 will be resurfaced in a project valued at $8.54 million.

The repaving will take place between Brisco and Parson and is scheduled to begin May 5. The process involves levelling the asphalt surface and overlaying new asphalt.

The work is necessary because the existing surface has reached the end of its lifespan and requires rehabilitation.

“Highway 95 is a key route in the area, serving as a detour when Highway 1 (or Highway 93 South) is closed, and is a well-travelled highway for tourists coming from Alberta,” Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett said. “This investment will improve safety and make the journey more comfortable for all travellers.”

The contract has been awarded to Okanagan Aggregates Ltd., of Armstrong. Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.
