Highway 95A south closed due to fire

The fire currently burning at the Columbia Salvage scrap yard in south Marysville has now forced the closure of Highway 95A.

Drive BC reports – Highway 95A Both directions
 – is closed in both directions because of the fire.

Smoke from the fire is blowing across the highway, blanketing Bootleg Gap Golf Course and surrounding area with thick, acrid smoke.

Kimberley Fire Department has been fighting the fire since about 9:30 a.m. Officials with the fire department asked e-KNOW to inform Kimberley residents to close their windows and are asking people to stay away from the scene.

Kimfire6An estimated time of opening of Highway 95A is currently not available and an assessment is in progress.

Detour available from Kimberley on Hwy 95A to Hwy 93/95 through Wasa. From Cranbrook, on Hwy 93/95 through Wasa. There is also Mission Road if you have time but bear in mind it is a gravel road.
