Community events are always about entertaining the kids as well the adults and Sparwood’s Coal Miner Days is a perfect example of how to do it right.

Coal Miner Days 2015, running Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, June 14, has more events and activities planned than any active child or adult could partake in. Arts and entertainment, sporting events, classic cars, an Emergency Preparedness Fair, food galore and so much more.

Things really begin with a bang and a few booms Friday night with Fire In the Sky – an incredible fireworks display put on by the Sparwood Fire Department Friday evening from 11 – 11:30 p.m.

Proceeds from this year’s Lions Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning will go to the new sitting room at Lilac Terrace. The breakfast is free – but the Lions love donations for the food.

Fill up at the breakfast and then take in the annual parade – one of the biggest in the region.

The June 13 parade concludes at the Sparwood Rec Centre, where many of the activities are located.

Also on Saturday there is the Knights of Columbus Soapbox Derby and Car Show and Shine from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at Centennial Square

There will also be a climbing wall at the Coal Miner Days Kids Fest on Saturday by the Sparwood Rec Centre.

Helping cap the weekend’s events is the Emergency Preparedness Fair on Sunday, June 14.
