Juras seeks re-election as Canal Flats mayor

Ute Juras announced Oct. 4 that she is seeking re-election as Mayor of the Village of Canal Flats in the Nov. 15 municipal election.

U.Juras 8“Canal Flats celebrated its tenth year of incorporation this year and I have had the honour and privilege to be serving the community from day one. I served as Councillor for 2.5 terms (we were incorporated midterm) and as mayor for one term. For the last nine years I also enjoyed having a seat at the Regional District of East Kootenay table representing the Village of Canal Flats. These past 10 years have been such an incredible experience that I’m not quite ready to hand over the torch,” Juras said in a statement to the media.

“We have had so many accomplishments such as protecting the wetlands by building a trail to the source of the Columbia, secured funding for a walkway within in the village that is very heavily used. Most recently we have completed a $1.2 million arena retrofit project as well as the Columbia Discovery Centre, which houses a Ktunaxa First Nation Interpretive Centre, the village offices and the Headwaters Arts Society. We are also about to complete the watersystem upgrade project, which will bring potable drinking water to the Eagles Nest subdivision and adequate fire-flow to the entire village. I am so proud to have been part of all of these projects and many more throughout my tenure on council,” she outlined.

“As this first term as mayor comes to a close for me I feel that there is still so much that I want to do to move this wonderful village forward. I am so thankful that the voters of Canal Flats have allowed me this opportunity to serve them and hope that they will continue to do so. Mark November 15 on your calendar and be sure you get out there and vote,” she concluded.
