Is this the Wild West where we can do as we choose without regard for the interests of others? Do we trust special interest groups or politicians to get it right? Are you willing to engage to get it right?

In the Columbia Valley, there is an incredibly diverse ecosystem and incredibly diverse groups of people accessing those ecosystems. In most cases, backcountry users take care of the land, water and forests. In some cases, long lasting damage is done. The province, the Regional District of East Kootenay, local leaders, leaders of users groups and all of us want to see our area cared for today and for the future.

We invite you to join the discussion. We invite you to the upcoming September 10, meeting (5:30- 9:00 p.m. at the Invermere Community Hall) of the Columbia Valley Recreation Access Council (CVRAC).

The meeting is a facilitated discussion where all perspectives are welcome. At our April 9 meeting, 19 people from ATV, environmental, hunting, tourism, eco-tourism, hiking, mountain biking and other interests came together. They identified the ‘why’ of CVRAC;

To create a multi-use plan for the entire area that does not take away from any one group that recognizes any or all sensitive environmental areas. A map based environmental ethical plan that all user groups can agree to. Having a plan and product that maintains access and prevents abuse; protection of the environment through responsible use.”

Join us Tuesday, September 10 in Invermere. Listen to all and be part of creating the recommendations. Without the CVRAC and similar public forum initiatives, the alternatives include no shared plan, no plan or a plan that is created by the Province without your input. We want your input. Thanks to those that are committing to making the CVRAC useful, respectful and a public voice.
