Cranbrook RCMP along with East Kootenay Traffic Services will be increasing enforcement efforts with regard to distracted driving this month.

Other infractions will not be ignored; however, distracted driving will be the focus.

Distracted driving is the second leading cause of car crash fatalities – ahead of impaired driving – and is the leading cause of rear-end crashes which often result in injuries.

Cranbrook Detachment S/Sgt. Dave Dubnyk advises the message is very simple: “If you are driving, leave your phone alone. There is no call important enough to risk injury or death to yourself or anyone else.

“Officers from Cranbrook Detachment will be working extra shifts to promote this safe driving initiative,” Dubnyk added.
