Mine Rescue Competition opportunity for Fernie: chamber

Once again Fernie is hosting the Fernie Mine Rescue Competition Sept. 11-12.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Mine Rescue Competition and the 60th year in B.C.

This year Fernie will host close to 600 people/miners and their families. The teams will start to arrive on Sept 8. There will be ample opportunity for all to shop, visit restaurants, cafes and enjoy all that Fernie has to offer.

Fernie Chamber of Commerce is asking members for support and participation by offering a discount, incentive, or other promotional offer to the miners and their families.

We call it ‘Members to Miners.’ Simply display a poster to notify miners and their families that you are taking part in the program. They will have with them a brochure outlining all the businesses taking part and what each businesses special offer is, the chamber noted in a message to members.

“This is a great way to drive some extra business your way!

The chamber will design and print the posters and brochures, all you have to do is let us know if you’d like to take part, and what your discount or special offer will be and we will do the rest,” the chamber info bulletin stated.

“As we all know mining is an integral part of this valley’s economy with most of us being related to or knowing someone that works in the mine or in a associated business. Safety has been dramatically improved over the years and focus on safe work practices is foremost for all of those associated. Mining remains a challenging environment in which to work, and the men and women who work each and every day need to be commended,” the chamber related.

If you would like to take part, please let the chamber know by emailing [email protected] and tell them your discount or special offer will be.
