Motorcyclist killed in Kootenay Park crash

A 57-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon following a crash on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park.

Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment members responded to a single vehicle motorcycle accident at 1 p.m. on August 3. Detachment NCO S/Sgt. Marko Shehovac reported that a 57-year-old male was operating a 2011 ZX1000 Kawasaki southbound when he attempted to negotiate a sharp curve on a steep grade.

The driver lost control of his bike and was ejected. He was driving ahead of a group that was further behind. On their arrival they attempted CPR.

The busy highway was closed for several hours as emergency officials attended to the scene and investigated.

Southeast Traffic Services also attended along with a Traffic Analyst and are assisting the BC Coroner’s office.
