Multi-use centre contract awarded
The District of Invermere yesterday awarded the contract for the construction of the new multi-use community centre.
The contract is awarded to T.A. Rendeck Associates Ltd. based out of Creston.
“It is important to note that they have a significant number of local firms listed as sub-trades,” noted Invermere Mayor Gerry Taft in a Facebook post.
“Several deletions and deferments have been made to the project to keep things within budget, the most significant being the bulk of the landscaping has been removed from the main contract and so has the interior finishing of the library space. The landscaping and library finishing will still occur, but there is an opportunity to redefine the scope and costs of these items, and hopefully a further opportunity for local trades to be involved in these items,” Taft said, adding, “Site mobilization will hopefully begin next week, and the first item will be the abatement and demolition of the old school bus garage.”
“The projected timeline for completion of the building is approximately 60 weeks from now! After many years of discussions and design regarding the old high school site and replacing our existing community hall (dating back to at least 1994),” Taft exclaimed.
“Invermere, our regional partners (Regional District of East Kootenay Electoral Areas F and G, Village of Radium Hot Springs, Village of Canal Flats), as well as number of key user groups including but not limited to a consortium of visual and performing arts and the library- will continue working on fundraising to help cover the cost for theatre / performance equipment, retractable theatre seating, library finishing and commercial restaurant equipment,” Taft said.
