“As a board we strive to maintain tax levels and minimize increases when they are required. For the seventh straight year we have been able to approve new projects without increasing taxes. That is a record I’m proud of,” said KERHD Board Chair Dean McKerracher, District of Elkford Mayor.

Some of the capital projects for the coming year include a Boiler Room upgrade at the Invermere & District Hospital, an Operating Room renovation at the Creston Valley Hospital, the renovation of an Operating Room/Day Care area at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, and renovations to lab space in Cranbrook which will see lab services offered out of a central community location in Cranbrook.

The 2015 budget also includes a $528,100 global grant for projects under $100,000.

This year’s Hospital District tax rate will work out to about $16 per $100,000 of assessed value on a residential property.

The Kootenay East Regional Hospital District covers a large area including the Regional District of East Kootenay, the towns of Creston and Golden as well as their surrounding rural communities.

The function of the hospital district is to provide up to 40% of the funding for equipment and construction projects at health care facilities within the hospital district, with the remaining cost being covered by Interior Health.
