Nomination period for local elections starts Tuesday

Potential candidates for Mayor, Council and School Trustee will be able to submit their nomination papers for the 2014 Local Government Election as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 30.

The deadline for nominations is 4 p.m. on Friday, October 10.

Nomination forms for all candidates are available at Cranbrook City Hall or on the city’s website, at www.cranbrook.ca.

Nomination papers must be filed at City Hall with the Chief Election Officer by appointment only on weekdays between September 30 and October 10, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. except on October 10 when the deadline is 4 p.m.

fl‹fi˛On October 10 at 4:30 p.m. the Chief Election Officer will officially declare the list of candidates for Mayor, Council and Trustee. That list will be available online the same day by 5 p.m.

General voting day for the Local Government Election is Saturday, November 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters will be asked to vote for one Mayor, up to six Councillors and up to five Trustees (School District No. 5).

In addition the city will be seeking electoral assent on whether to continue adding fluoride to the City’s Water system. The question will ask: “Are you in favour of council adopting City of Cranbrook Cease Fluoridation Bylaw No. 3799, 2014, which authorizes stopping the addition of fluoride to the municipal water supply effective January 1, 2015?”
