One in custody for home invasion; more arrests anticipated

Cranbrook RCMP has made one arrest and now holds a warrant for the arrest of a second male believed to be involved in the violent home invasion that occurred on February 4.

On February 4, Cranbrook RCMP responded to a home invasion between the 200 and 500 block of 20th Avenue South, where a 35-year-old male was shot. Initial reports indicated that four unknown males had forced their way into the residence, assaulted several occupants of the house and shot one person.

The investigation by Cranbrook RCMP led to Blairmore, Alberta, where two males arrived at the Crowsnest Pass Hospital that same day. One male was suffering from a gunshot wound. The second male was arrested and a vehicle seized in relation to the shooting in Cranbrook. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of evidence believed to be related to the incident, including two handguns.

A warrant for arrest has been issued for Michael Andres Salvador-Bejarano, born May 23, 1991. Salvador is believed to be in the Calgary area.

Cranbrook RCMP members have been working non-stop with partner agencies in both B.C. and Alberta to determine all involved in this shooting.

“This is a clear example of the dedication your local RCMP members exhibit on a regular basis; in this particular matter, the members of the General Investigation Section and Crime Reduction Unit. These types of serious incidents are not typical in the Cranbrook area, and our resolve paints a clear message to those who want to run amok in our area. You will be brought to justice and this community will not tolerate this type of activity. The Cranbrook RCMP wishes to thank the communities we serve for your patience and your assistance in dealing with this matter,” stated Cranbrook Detachment Commander S/Sgt Hector Lee.
