Pharmacy thief arrested with Fentanyl

On March 28, Elk Valley RCMP received a report of theft from a local pharmacy in Fernie.

The police investigation had identified a suspect and also revealed that among the items stolen were eight Fentanyl patches.

In the early hours of March 30, a 33-year-old male was taken into custody by the Elk Valley RCMP and has since been charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance. Police subsequently executed a Search Warrant at the residence of the suspect and recovered some of the items stolen.

“Elk Valley RCMP would like to stress that Fentanyl is a controlled substance (narcotic pain medicine) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, it is habit forming and the misuse of it can lead to overdose and death,” stated Sgt. Will Thien, Operations NCO of the Elk Valley RCMP Detachment.

Thien also noted Fentanyl is “a rising concern” among law enforcement officials.
