SD5 Board Notes
The following is a summary of School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board motions carried during the September 15 board meeting in Cranbrook.
Committee meetings are not typically held in June. Therefore, no motions coming out of Committee were carried.
Special Presentation
The board received a special presentation from past SD5 Superintendent Roy McLean on a book he recently authored, School Superintendent as an Educational Leader: Fact or Fiction?
The book outlines McLean’s career as an educator from his early days as a classroom teacher, his years as superintendent of School District 1 (SD1) and, following the amalgamation of SD1 and School District 2 (SD2), as the first superintendent of what is now School District 5 (SD5).
Proceeds from sales of the book help fund a scholarship McLean set up in honour of his son Spencer, a graduate of Fernie Secondary School (FSS) who passed away at the early age of 36 shortly after receiving his Medical Doctorate. The annual scholarship is awarded to students of FSS who are pursuing a post-secondary education in healthcare.
Copies of the book are available at Polar Peek Books and Treasures in Fernie.
