Snowfall Warning for much of region

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for the East Kootenay
 north including Invermere and
south including Kimberley and Cranbrook.

Snowfall, with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected.

An upper level disturbance is spreading snow to the Kootenay region. Six centimetres of snow has already fallen in parts of the East Kootenay area overnight, most of it west of Elko. An additional 10 to 15 centimetres is possible through later today. The snow will ease this evening as the disturbance weakens.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Mainroad East Kootenay reports this morning that plowing and sanding is in progress, winter driving conditions prevail throughout.

“Expect slippery and slushy sections. More snow is expected throughout the day with some forecasters calling for 10 cm or more though others are saying around five cm. Colder temperatures are forecasted for tonight particularly in the Crowsnest, Elk Valley and Rocky Mountain Trench (Cranbrook north) areas,” Mainroad stated in a release to media.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected, Environment Canada pointed out.
