Snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada

For some the following news will be like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard, while to others it will ignite wintery passions.

Environment Canada has issued (as of this morning/Oct. 22) a snowfall warning for the Kootenays, with accumulation of 10 to 15 cm tonight through Tuesday morning (Oct. 23).

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions, Environment Canada stated.

A frontal system will move over southeastern British Columbia tonight and spread snow over the Kootenays. Rain showers will begin early this evening and will change to snow this evening as the freezing level drops to valley bottoms. Ten cm of snow is forecast for the West Kootenay and 10 to 15 cm are forecast for Kootenay Lake and East Kootenay south before the snow tapers to a few flurries Tuesday morning.
