Social Planning Society serving up luncheon series
There’s something new on the menu for not-for-profit organizations in the East Kootenay this year.
Taking its cue from the successful Chamber of Commerce Luncheons, the Cranbrook Social Planning Society plans to host the Cranbrook Thrives Luncheon Series, focused on the needs of not-for-profit organizations in the East Kootenay.
According to Rita Romeo, chair of the Cranbrook Social Planning Society, the luncheon series will include four luncheons between May 2015 and March 2016, and is made possible due to a grant received from the United Way East Kootenay. The luncheons will feature a keynote speaker and provide the opportunity for attendees to network with other not-for-profits.
“Like many organizations that operate on very lean budgets, not-for-profits are always looking for ways to do more with less. One way to achieve this objective is to partner with similar organizations to ensure there isn’t a duplication of services, ensure there are no service gaps and identify possible shared service areas,” Romeo said.
While networking can achieve these objectives, she points out that many not-for-profit employees don’t have a lot of opportunities to network. “Not-for-profits are usually minimally staffed so there’s not a lot of flexibility in their schedules to get together and share information,” says Romeo adding that most people are able to fit in a lunch break.
The first luncheon of the series will be held at the Heritage Inn and features keynote speaker Chris Botterill (pictured above), owner and general manager of Genex Marketing, a digital marketing firm that relocated from Vancouver to Cranbrook in 2009. Cranbrook-born Botterill will provide not-for-profits with information on the benefits and basics of using digital strategies to help them connect with clients and donors.
While the focus of the Cranbrook Thrives Luncheon series is not-for-profit organizations, anyone is welcome to attend. The first luncheon will be held at the Heritage Inn on Thursday, May 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and include a soup and salad lunch.
