Strong winds cause problems in Kimberley

CN Overwaitea HillStrong crosswinds in the Wycliffe to Kimberley area have been playing havoc this morning, causing a couple of road closures in Kimberley.

Trees have been blown down on Highway 95A/Overwaitea Hill and Gerry Sorensen Way, causing road closures. Kimberley RCMP and Kimberley Fire Department responded to both incidents, with Highway 95A (Overwaitea Hill) now open to single lane, alternating traffic.

CN OverwaiteaStrong crosswinds have been reported along Highway 95A from Wycliffe to Kimberley, even causing a temporary shutdown of the Kimberley Alpine Resort chairlift. The current chairlift situation is being assessed by resort officials.

All regional highways are currently rated by DriveBC as having slippery sections, with compact snow. Highway 3 between Elko and the Alberta border is noted as having slushy sections.

Be prepared for sudden changes in highway conditions.
