Teen charged with arson for school fire
A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody for his part in the last week’s fire at Laurie Middle School in Cranbrook.
On November 11, Cranbrook RCMP and the Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services jointly began an investigation into a fire, which started on the roof at Laurie Middle School.
On November 18, after an exhaustive investigation, Cranbrook RCMP took a 14-year-old male into custody for arson. The young male has since been released and is on a curfew. The youth male is next to appear in court on December 7.
“Cranbrook RCMP would like to thank the fire department, school staff and students of Laurie Middle School for their assistance during this investigation,” stated Cst. Brad Sabo.
The fire resulted in the closure of the school on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 12 and 13) and it reopened for classes on Monday (Nov. 16).
