No two bits about this haircut

ShaveTheMain1Cranbrook Interior Health support worker Manoj Kaushal had a lot of hair – a mane even – and he was quite attached to it.

So when his wife Vintee asked him what it would take to cut it all off, he took a moment to think about it.

“Fifteen thousand dollars,” Manoj told her.

Not $15,000 for his own use, mind you, but $15,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, a cause both Manoj and Vintee are passionate about having lost friends to cancer.

ShaveTheMain3With a goal set, Manoj and his wife got to work on a lofty fundraising effort.

There were some doubters at the start, but the Kaushals were committed and persistent.

And, thanks to support from Manoj’s Interior Health coworkers, Vintee’s fellow employees at BDO Canada LLP, other businesses in Cranbrook and various friends, the Kaushal’s final donation exceeded even their high expectations.

“With everyone’s support in and outside of Cranbrook, we not only reached our goal, but went above and beyond and ended up with close to $17,000,” says Manoj.

With money in place, he was bound to honour his part of the deal and on May 31 at a Cancer Society Relay for Life event in Cranbrook the “mane” came off.

“I’m still getting used to my new look. It’s different and I miss my hair, but when I think of it, it was all for a great cause,” Manoj says.
