Water conservation bylaw has safety aim

The District of Elkford’s recently adopted Water Conservation Bylaw was set into place to not just ensure water supplies are well managed; it was enacted to help ensure safety for residents.

District of Elkford council March 23 adopted Outdoor Water Conservation Bylaw No. 769. The new bylaw replaces the district’s Water Conservation Policy No. 2004-05.

“To ensure sufficient capacities in the district’s reservoirs in the event of a fire emergency, the new bylaw permits even and odd days for watering (corresponding to your address) with some slight modifications to the permitted hours under the old policy,” the district explained in a message to the public.

The outdoor watering restrictions will be in force between April 1 and September 30 of each year as follows, as per district information:

a) A Person with an even numbered civic address is permitted to water their lawn, landscaped area, trees or shrubs on even numbered days.

b) A Person with an odd numbered civic address is permitted to water their lawn, landscaped area, trees or shrubs on odd numbered days.

c) Lawn, landscaped area, tree or shrub watering will be permitted on the days noted but only within the hours of 4:00 am to 10:00 am and 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

d) Hand watering of the lawn, landscaped area, trees or shrubs will not be subject to sections a), b), and c) above.
