Working group establishing direction
An economic development working group is working on a plan to help Village of Canal Flats residents in light of the impending closure of the Canal Flats mill by Canfor.
The Canal Flats Economic Development Working Group, which included representatives of the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skilled Training, the Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, the Village of Canal Flats, Columbia Basin Trust, Regional District of East Kootenay, Community Futures East Kootenay, Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald, Canfor and other industry stakeholders, met again on Monday, October 19.
During the meeting the group identified goals and strategies for working on future economic opportunities.
“We will continue to meet to collaborate on action items identified during the meeting. I am very optimistic in the direction this group is going,” reported Village of Canal Flats Mayor Ute Juras.
