Event to recognize Suicide Awareness & Prevention Day

A small planning group consisting of Canadian Mental Health Association, Safe Communities Cranbrook, East Kootenay Addiction Services and Cranbrook Society for Community Living is hosting a special event to recognize World Suicide Awareness & Prevention Day.

Suicide awareness posterThe event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Rotary Park on Thursday, September 10 and is being viewed as a time to: remember the lives of those who died by suicide; send messages of hope and support to those touched by suicide; “and to renew our commitment to t0 preventing suicide in our community,” said Theresa Bartraw, Regional Youth Substance Use Education Coordinator with East Kootenay Addiction Services Society.

The event is free and includes:

  • Live music
  • Zumba
  • A dance troop from Aspire Dance Academy
  • Crafts
  • Memorial kite tributes
  • Guest speakers
  • Food vendors and information booths.
