Exploring your own back yard; learn how to grow food here

As part of the Welcoming Communities project,Ā the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy and TheĀ Cranbrook Public Library have teamed up to provide a free one hourĀ presentation for newcomers.

ShannonDuncanGain local knowledge of the Community Garden and find out what resources and experience are needed to grow your own food here. If you are a new comer or have immigrated to Canada in the last 10 years you will be interested in the information offered by Shannon Duncan of the Food Action Committee as part of the Explore Your Own Back Yard Series at the Library on Thursday,Ā March 27 at 7 p.m.

ā€œSo much of gardening is rooted in experience and there is such great potential for sharing and learning about each other in the gardenā€ states Duncan. She will share gardening tips as well as information about the Community Garden.

This presentation will increase the local capacity for growing food by offering a place where immigrants or newcomers can learn more about growing food in our climate while exchanging skills from a local member of the community.

The presentation is free but registration is required. This project is made possible through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.

To get involved or to register call Jenna Madsen at the Cranbrook Public Library at 250-426-4063 or email [email protected] .
