Leadership and experience working for you

By Rob Gay,

Electoral Area C Director

Many of you are busy so I will start with the summary. My call for action for you; on Nov. 15 vote to re-elect Rob Gay Electoral Area C Director. For me; I’ll continue to achieve results for you.

Many of us have experienced that unsettling feeling of becoming lost in the forest of a big city. It can be very disturbing until you regain your bearings.

Area C Director and RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay is seeking a fourth term in office. If successful he will be the most seasoned regional director on the next board.

Nine years ago I was honoured to represent the good citizens of Area C of the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) as your director.

Initially, I felt lost in a new world of over 100 services (each linked to a detailed budget) that residents demand. To succeed I quickly learned to listen, observe and to form solid working relationships among my fellow directors to achieve results for Area C citizens.

‘Leadership and experience working for you’ is my campaign theme.

Some results: You said keep your eye on taxes. I’m proud to report that during the past three years, average Area C home taxes have risen .8%, while over the same three-year period CPI averaged 1.4%. See www.RobGay for a longer list of results.

An early lesson I learned in political survival is you can’t rest on past successes. There is always more work to do to resolve current and emerging issues.

For example, many of us did not foresee a local doctor shortage, the rapid adoption and dependence on high speed Internet at home and in our businesses, or the high costs of delivering a modern solid waste program. May many years of experience, coupled with my solid reputation for achieving results continues to create opportunities for me to work with others to develop solutions to both local and regional challenges.

I am an active member on the Cranbrook Physician Shortage Task Force. I chair a regional broadband committee; membership includes the Ktunaxa Nation Council and board chairs of four regional districts.

Recently I was one of two local politicians appointed to Multi-Materials BC Provincial Advisory Committee. MMBC’s mandate is to recycling all paper and packaging products used in B.C. Once the MMBC program is implemented in the RDEK we can expect a significant reduction in our solid waste costs and diversion of even more material from our landfills.

A list of my targets for the next few years is on my web site or phone me.

Like you, I keep busy. I enjoy working for you and while I don’t always get everything right, I certainly work hard to make decisions on your behalf that are well-informed, economically and socially sensitive, and collaborate and fair.

I ask for your continued support on Nov. 15 and beyond.

– Along with being Area C director and seeking a fourth term in office, Rob Gay is also currently RDEK board chair.
